The bags used in our shop are made of Mater-Bi^®, and so is all our cuttlery, our coffee cups and our icecream cups.

What exactly is Mater-Bi^®?

Mater-Bi^® is derived from renewable materials such as corn starch. Quote from the Novamont website: http://www.materbi.com/

All of the Mater-Bi® grades:

• are completely biodegradable in different environments, for example, in composting and in the soil (in accordance with the European norm EN 13432, and with certification programs issued by some of the leading international bodies);
• can be worked using the same processes as for traditional plastics and with similar output;
• can be printed on using normal inks and printing techniques without the need for crown treatment;
• can be coloured in bulk using biodegradable Master-batches;
• are intrinsically anti-static;
• can be sterilised using gamma rays.

Currently in Europe, approximately 5000 municipalities use Mater-Bi bags for the collection and disposal of organic waste. Mater-Bi has been
tested and certified to the most demanding European standards for biodegradable and compostable plastics.
